Finally, A Good Time in Nashville (TNF repost)

For the first time since November, TNF had an extremely fun time in Nashville. And it happened in a very surprising place: Lower Broad (aka the honky tonk district).

Yep. In the course of trying to figure out where The Crunk had disappeared to, we decided to get back to our 2003 roots, a simpler time when a guy in a fancy western shirt was guaranteed a good time, an occasional free drink, and close dances with fairly pretty girls. If that guy knew the complete lyrics to one or two 1980s country songs, well, then his odds were that much better.

The TNF Intern wasn't scheduled to appear, but, after a frustrating turn of events that resulted him in going to the Lipstick Lounge with a lady and leaving without, he was willing to meet up.

TrapAfter hearing favorable things about The Trap, we ducked in at midnight and it was deserted. Obviously, we left there immediately. The Trap has a real Urban Cowboy feel--and a mechanical bull--so let's all pray that it stays in business.

Next, it was The Stage, which had a line to get in the front door. Maybe the Nashville Kats home opener boosted downtown for the night. The Stage is the most consistently fun of the SoBro bars. It always has a big crowd, and their weekend house band appeals to younger set by staying on the rock side of country music. The big shocker was finding girlfriend Kassie working there, but not singing; she's performing at other places, she said, but, still, it's a shock to see her wasting a weekend night selling beers.

It was far too dude-crowded there, so we went to the Second Fiddle (after, of course, lowering our usual standards and talking to a few unattractive girls). Second Fiddle generally has a really good crowd on weekend nights. There, we met two aspiring singers, who then went with us to some of the other SoBro bars.

The Intern, though, still harboring some newfound distrust of females, decided that it'd be awesome to leave the pretty girls we'd met and go somewhere else (after they had spent just a tad too long talking to some greasy dudes they knew). Not really having a dog in the fight (I was chatting up the prettier--but completely sober and skeptical-- one), I agreed and we headed to Second Avenue.

Coyote Ugly, at 2AM, was charging a $5 cover. Good luck with that. We went to Lonnies, where Lonnie K. Powers' business acumen was on full display: he's doubled the amount of early 20's female singers. And, for some reason, this has resulted in girls coming back to Lonnies. Lots of them.

We had a really good time there, but we simply ran out of time (especially when the lights come on at 2:30).

The worst part was, as we driving away from downtown, we passed our two girlfriends from earlier, waiting to cross the street. I rolled down the passenger window, and the first words they said to us? "What happened to you guys? We were looking for you."

Yeah, that's what you get for listening to someone nicknamed "The Intern."

The same mistakes will not be made next weekend, as Captain T comes to town. (Also, there'll be pictures).
